SEGGER's Friendly License (SFL) is designed to enable anyone, anywhere—regardless of background or resources—to develop embedded systems for non-commercial purposes, free of charge. Whether one is a student exploring embedded systems, a hobbyist working on a personal project, or someone who has been designing embedded systems for years, SFL ensures full access to SEGGER’s cutting-edge tools.
For commercial users, SEGGER makes it easy to evaluate software with no time restrictions, and thus offers businesses the flexibility to evaluate the software before making a commitment.

How SFL works
With SFL, getting started with SEGGER tools is incredibly easy. Simply download software and begin using it right away. There are no complicated setup-related steps or fees involved.
SFL applies to a wide range of SEGGER tools across the Create, Build, and Verify categories, and it allows access to a toolkit for embedded systems development. This kit includes the complete emPower OS package, along with many powerful tools, such as embOS-Ultra; the Embedded Studio IDE; and SystemView, SEGGER's real-time software analysis tool.
SEGGER's Educational Partnership Program
At SEGGER, support for the next generation of embedded developers goes beyond SFL. Through the Educational Partnership Program, university teams, students, and educators receive active support in creating innovative applications and projects.

License terms and conditions (SFL)
- Use by students, tutors, teachers, and private individuals
- Use in universities, colleges, non-profit organizations, and at home
- Use in hobbyist projects, courses, classes, training, and self-education
- Evaluation of SEGGER software for use in a commercial project
- Use for any commercial purposes, project, or other undertaking intended for profit
- Monetary gains or the reasonable anticipation of monetary gains from the use of the license
- Development, debugging, programming, or the manufacture of a commercial product (or parts thereof)
- Development of any software intended to be covered by a software patent
- Use in a university course to teach and learn about embedded applications and systems
- Use in free training tutorials or webinars for the purpose of demonstrating use
- Use in learning to develop embedded systems at home
- Creation of non-commercial software or a product individually or in a team
- Use in university projects carried out for a company that generates profit
- Development of a product for sale or commercial purposes
- Use in the creatation of tools for commercial production
SEGGER's Friendly License (SFL)
For non-commercial use or for evaluation purposes, you, regardless whether you are an individual person or a legal entity, are welcome to use the software free of charge under this license.
Any other use of the software is considered commercial use, for which a commercial-use license must be obtained from SEGGER.
Definitions
"Non-commercial use" means using the software for teaching, learning, studying, or projects that do not have a commercial background. If the software is used for products or services intended to be sold, the use is considered to be commercial.
"Evaluation" means you are trying out the software for possible future use. While the length of this time period is up to you, once it becomes a standard part of your workflow, we no longer consider it evaluation.
Disclaimer of warranty
When using the software under this license, you accept that it is provided on an "as is" basis, without warranty of any kind.
Limitation of liability
When using the software under this license, you accept that SEGGER is not liable for any damages arising out of the use of or inability to use the software.
Third-party software and licenses
More information about third-party components, if any, included in the software and the licenses that these components are under can be found in the file doc/license/3rd-party.txt after installation of the software.
Restrictions
1. You may not:
(a) decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the software,
(b) redistribute, encumber, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or otherwise transfer rights in the software,
(c) remove or alter any trademark, logo, copyright or other proprietary notices, legends, symbols or labels of the software.
2. The software may include source code, which you may use for and with the software only.
Such source code is marked in the header comment or a corresponding document (e.g. LICENSE.md).
You may not:
(a) use the source code or parts of it outside of the intended use in the software,
(b) use the source code or the output (object code) generated from it without a valid license for the software.
3. Without prejudice to any other rights, SEGGER may terminate this agreement if you fail to comply with foregoing restrictions.
Revocation
SEGGER reserves the right to revoke the right to use the software granted by this license on a case-by-case basis. In this unlikely event, SEGGER will provide the revocation notice in writing, allowing an adequate notice period.
Applicable law, venue
German Law (with the exception of its rules for Conflicts of Law) applies. Sole venue is Monheim/Rhein.
